Spelter is an alloy of copper and zinc of approximately equal amounts, which was used extensively in the production of sculpture.

Spelter is an inexpensive substitute for bronze. It can be formed and cast easily, with good definition, and although the colour is grey, it can be patinated to resemble bronze.
